Aiteall
Pronunciation AT-ell
The Irish word for the fine spell of weather between two showers. Sometimes only a few minutes, sometimes an entire bright afternoon. The word exists because in Ireland the gap between rains is a distinct meteorological category, long enough to hang washing, walk the dog, finish a smoke. No English-speaking culture has needed one.
