The Death Coach

A belief recorded in Lurganboy, Co. Cavan, held that the Death Coach went up the road whenever a member of the Malone family was ill and about to die. Nobody claimed to have seen it, but it had often been heard.

During a wake, with one of the Malones ill, the mourners heard horses’ hooves clapping, harness creaking and wheels rumbling. They rushed out to the road. Nothing was there.
